In concert she chose her folky side. Most of the songs were carried by acoustic-guitar fingerpicking harking back to 1970s English trad-rock like Pentangle and Fairport Convention. But she also dipped into reggae for the title song of her latest album “Me and Armini” (Rough Trade) and galloping upbeat pop complete with high synthesizer swoops and a nonsense-syllable hook for the giddy love song “Jungle Drum. ” Guitar distortion and surges of ominous psychedelic organ chords loomed suddenly in “Gun” about a crime of passion and her voice took on an accusatory rasp in “Heard It All Before” about infidelity and its aftermath. Torrini hasn’t spurned electronics. But for now she uses them subtly.

21 2009 the University of Florida became the hip place to be when variations of folk rap and reggae music united under one roof. rganized by the Jewish Student Union and the University of Florida Hillel the event titled “40 Days 40 Nights Tour” is a traveling college tour made up of three talented Jewish musicians from Brooklyn N. Besides Florida the “40 Days 40 Nights Tour” has traveled to California Kentucky Texas New York and Massachusetts. The free event started with the local Jewish band Superfysh whose unique choice of floral clothing and numerous instruments including saxophone trumpet guitar keyboard and drums enthused and impressed the audience of more than 100.

They also have their own reggae clubs and concerts such as ‘Reggae Japansplash’ and ‘ne Love Jamaica Festival’. Tse said the Japanese have an innate love for reggae and dancehall music. “I think they (Japanese) like the beat and the island music and Japan is a next island. People relate to the reggae music and culture. Jamaica is a paradise when it comes to musical stuff” said Tse.
