Posted by: Kylie of 12:46am January 30 2008Great gig! Fergie Fiction Plane and The Police were all FANTASTIC!!!!I'm not sure why so many sat so stunned during Fergie's set. she was great! She did Rock Hip-Hop & Reggae! But the Adelaide crowd only woke up when The Police came on stage. I guess some people have a very narrow taste in music and culture. As for me I got 100% value for my ticket. Posted by: Paul D of Adelaide 12:02am January 30 2008The Entertainment Centre is a terrible venue. I have seen some great gigs there but only because the artists were great.

But two years of begging and pleading e-mails from tenacious Creek-lovers and Facebook forums eventually convinced organisers Red Hot Events to take the leap and stage the festival – even though there is no longer a headline sponsor. “We’re taking an enormous risk but we couldn’t ignore all those heartfelt pleas and cries from the wilderness” says Roxy Walker of Red Hot with a smile. “Up The Creek has a history and it’s sad to think that the music landscape of South Africa could be without it. As always Up The Creek boasts an impressive line-up of the best musical talent this country has to offer from seasoned bands and solo artists like Wonderboom The Parlotones Southern Gypsey Queen and Valiant Swart to newer bands like Van Coke Kartel Taxi Violence and Harris Tweed. Extremely Loud Minimal Metal
nytimes.com – Jan 28, 2008
” His choices for the book are as you might expect eclectic: e. Jonathan Lethem on James Brown Ann Powers on Neil Diamond (!) and Jody Rosen on the Hasidic reggae artist Matisyahu. Last Sunday there was a huge article about them in The New York Times which I suspect might dash my hopes for them joining the lineup for one of the nights at Carnegie Hall I’m curating next February… But who knows? I expected a sellout last night as a result of that article but I guess the Times demographic and the audience for extremely loud minimal metal has a small overlap. I can see the Venn diagram in my mind. ? It’s not the sort of music you go home humming to yourself. It’s a sensory assault – intense and strangely pleasurable (I wore earplugs). Byrne goes on to say what the evening led him to think about: melting icecaps Mayan ruins Donald Rumsfeld’s mind ant colonies Jesus’ and Mary’s private parts. As for Christgau he has this to say: “I’d rather be subjected to a David Byrne solo album than attend one of the Sunn0))) shows he describes so swiftly and astutely.
