A true inspiration and symbol of the healing power of music Sierra Leone’s Refugee All Stars perform a spirited and infectious fusion of traditional West African music and reggae. After fleeing the horrific civil war in their native Sierra Leone the band formed in a refugee camp in the West African nation of Guinea where it was discovered by filmmakers Zach Niles and Banker White who subsequently shot an award-winning documentary about the group. Initially backed by celebrities such as Sir Paul McCartney Keith Richards and Angelina Jolie the documentary Sierra Leone’s Refugee All Stars has won numerous awards at major film festivals and recently aired on PBS in the United States. Sierra Leone’s Refugee All Stars’ first CD Living Like a Refugee was released in 2006 on Anti-Records to critical acclaim. The band has been touring the world extensively since the summer of 2006 spreading a message of hope and healing and decrying the insanity of war.
