Poetry series brings the arts to the homeless
CTV.ca – Nov 26, 2007
But the neighbourhood — which made national headlines in August when a St. Catharines man was stabbed to death by aggressive panhandlers — was quieter than usual Thursday night as the centre’s clients spent the evening inside taking in a dub poetry performance by Canadian Reggae Music Award winner Michael St. The event was part of a writers series at the Meeting Place paid for by Canada Council for the Arts funding with the aim of bringing culture to a segment of society without the means to attend concerts or other ticketed events. George and his rhythmic style of performance poetry as headliner but also included poetry readings by members of the Meeting Place community.
Brumcast sounds out the local music scene
ic Birmingham.co.uk – Nov 26, 2007
—- If you were like me just two years ago you would think that the music scene in Birmingham extended as far as Black Sabbath or UB40 or more recently The Twang and Editors. But where do these groups spring up from and how do they get noticed?K I was lazy. I found interesting new music through the John Peel’s radio show and never looked further. Peel would always go against the grain and provide a genuine alternative to mainstream radio. When he sadly passed away I found that my listening was becoming stale and there was nothing being played on the radio that was important… It can be listened to at any time online or downloaded onto your home PC for free. Brumcast shows a complete disregard for genre for example you can expect to hear a Drum n Bass track followed by an acoustic singer-songwriter or Metal Funk Indie Hip-Hop Reggae Electronica etc. there are no rules.

Hammond takes himself away
Jamaica Gleaner – Nov 26, 2007
“It took some time to come up with the answer. And it took me back to square one because I did not do anything” he said. Hammond left the music business for three years not doing any writing recording or performing as “me just chill and search meself”. When he returned to Jamaica for good in 1990 he had not been forgotten. He explains that “to me a song is a serious part of life. It also makes life if you ask me. You can talk garbage and you know garbage is disposed of.
Shayne Ward: ‘Breathless’
Digital Spy – Nov 26, 2007
Worse still is ‘Tangled Up’ which photocopies every element of Wham!’s ‘Everything She Wants’ except the one that really matters: the gutsy impassioned vocal performance. Tantalisingly when Ward concentrates on holding a tune rather than trying to copy the bigger boys in the pop playground he emerges as a likeable talented performer. ‘Breathless’ shows he’s capable of selling a slick pop ballad while the sleek reggae-pop of ‘Damaged’ makes good use of his impressive falsetto. The Timberlake-on-amyl club rush of ‘U Make Me Wish’ meanwhile points to a possible new direction for the talent show survivor. Less cred-obsessed than Timbo he can release the fun frivolous pop songs that the increasingly po-faced Mouseketeer is too cool to croon. As for that lothario act it’s comprehensively quashed by the gooey sentiments of ‘If That’s K With You’. “I wanna keep your toothbrush at my apartment” Ward simpers winsomely.
