Thomas Turgoose plays Shaunwhose dad has recently been killed in the Falklands War. The filmbegins with a montage of what was happening in 1983 – MaggieThatcher a soldier with his leg blown off in the South AtlanticGreenham Common demos Lady Diana the National Front and thearrival of the compact disc. This is accompanied by reggae music asShaun drags himself from his pebblecrete council house to theschool where he’s bullied for wearing flares. Shaun has a sad slightly wonky-featured face but Meadows makeshim instantly likeable when he launches himself in the schoolyardat an older and much bigger boy who slags off his dad. Theheadmaster thrashes both of them because corporal punishment instate schools is still the norm. Indeed that’s part of the film’ssubstrate: violence is as English as warm beer and crap weather inthis film – from the playground to the battleground. n his way home Shaun encounters a gang of five skin- heads ina pedestrian underpass.

I saw one sign painted on the side of a building and parking lot behind it. nce there there weren’t any signs to confirm that I had made it to Bell’s. So I hesitantly strolled inside and found that I was indeed in a bar with some booming reggae music playing. The room had extraordinarily high ceilings with a second floor balcony overlooking it all. The bar was rather small along one wall and turned into the small kitchen area. ne the walls were all sorts of decorations to include a series of African masks with one Dr.
