The Aggrolites: West Coast reggae’s best-kept secret
CRegister – Aug 15, 2007
” “Yeah” I said “but you look like tough thugs. ” “Well we were trying to bring the tough back into reggae. Jamaican music is tough hands down tough as hell. Reggae music has always been tough. Ska music has always been tough. ‘When did the candy-ass ever get put into these things? Why did ska turn into skip-around-in-porkpie-hats pop?’ That’s what we were trying to get across there. ” I picked up a completely different signal.

Kingston Comes

I’ve met up with him a lot of times and been to a lot of his shows. He’s a very talented artist. “Himself raised in Jamaica from age seven to 11 Kingston feels that it’s ‘important’ to incorporate reggae influences in his music. n both Beautiful Girls and the next single Me Love Kingston jumps between singing and deejaying and both songs have definite reggae undertones. With this evident passion for the genre are we likely to hear him voicing on any riddims in the near future?Proud”I’ve been in talks with a couple of Jamaican producers so you might hear me on a few riddims at some point. But for now it’s really about the album which is a feel good record with a lot of different musical styles. I’m really proud of it.

While the world was waiting for his release Jah Cure has given hope to many with his music. With this in mind all his songs felt much more powerful. Longing For What Will It Take Jamaica and Prison Walls; he did them in his distinguished way of singing. Almost complaining as if he carries a heavy weight on his back. He reaches the high notes even if he has to press them out of his toes.

It’s more direct more abstract more focused with more dark humor. The dub parts are deeper; the fast parts are faster its pure orgasmo hysteria.

The music: Ida Viper a smooth swing and tight bluegrass trio from…
Homer Tribune – Aug 15, 2007
berlin said the group returned to Alaska for the summer and most recently played the Salmon Bake festival at Denali National Park in early August. "It was a great show because the crowd was being really responsive and actually listening" berlin said. "From there the music builds on itself it gets better and better as we roll along. " While it’s difficult to see how much Alaskans like bluegrass compared to the rest of the country Brian said Alaskan’s love for the music is "big-time. " But perhaps northerners need a little more swing in their lives. "It seems like Alaska folks really like bluegrass. But we also play a lot of western swing and now that we have a bass player we can swing it even harder" berlin said… "Everything works. No matter what we cut into it happens. We’ll go from ‘Wild Horses’ into a full-out banjo-ripping tune then into a reggae tune. We’ve got our own eclectic way of doing it" Campbell said. "People have been digging it. This has been my funnest bass gig in a long time. " The difference between swing and bluegrass for berlin’s mandolin playing is taking on more challenging chord sets and melodies.

Mall shoppers decide their food music surroundings
South African Star – The South African Star – Aug 15, 2007
Moreover he goes on to complain that the music played in these malls is “all Western”. He then goes on to inquire: “Why are our malls against everything that is African?”"These malls are not in Europe but right here in Africa” is his concluding flourish linking all this with a familiar bleat about the lack of “emancipation”. Well Mr Nkolokosa if you are as well travelled as you intimate you will have heard nothing but Indian or Pakistani classical or “bhangra’ music in Southall and Brick Lane shopping centres – in the heart of the UK in the heart of Europe. And you will also be hard pushed to find anything other to eat than Indian. In Paris visit the so-called banlieus (suburbs) you will hear little but Arab music (Tunisian or Algerian). And what restaurants there are will serve North African Arab foods and nothing else. Closer to home if you take a trip to Lenasia or Fordsburg shopping centres you will hear Indian music – bang in the heart of Africa. And the restaurants and fast-food outlets concentrate on Asian foods.
